We’re constantly driving how important it is to vary up your Facebook Page content. By now you’ve likely experimented with images, video and gifs, but do you want to know the ultimate content type your Page needs?
Frequently posting giveaways not only boosts engagement on your Page, but also earns you money and rapidly builds your email list. Keep reading to learn how giveaways aid in your Facebook Page’s success. We’ll also give you some examples of effective giveaways and show you how to create a giveaway using FPTraffic.
Giveaways Drive Engagement
Everyone loves getting free stuff. As long as the action required isn’t too complicated, people will always sign up to win prizes. Running giveaways on your Facebook Pages will increase your overall engagement with your community. Prompting people to share your giveaway is sure to drive traffic back to your Page.
When you set up a giveaway, you create an easy way for people to join your email list. Anyone who enters your giveaway must enter their email address to participate. FPGiveaway is integrated directly with AWeber, so you can connect your AWeber account to FPTraffic and get access to your lists to use in your giveaway.
Ask the winner of your giveaway to post a picture of themselves with the prize. This works really well when you give away a t-shirt. Post a picture of the winner wearing the shirt with another link to buy the shirt. You’ll build trust with your community because they see the winner wearing the shirt and know it’s not a scam. Of course, that’s also another opportunity to make some more commission off sales of the shirt you were giving away in the first place.
The extra value you’re providing your community with giveaways builds up trust. In turn, the engagement and reputation for your Page will bring you more traffic.
Why Type of Giveaway Should You Post?
The prize you give away should be related to your Facebook Page’s niche. For example, if you have a Friends TV Show Page, give away some Friends merchandise. Shirts, again, make for a great giveaway because they’re popular and easy to find.
Find a shirt, coffee mug or poster on Amazon, get a good picture of the product and post it to your Facebook Page. Enter a description along the lines of: “Click ‘Like’ to be entered to win this awesome shirt!”
You can include an affiliate link to buy the shirt – you’d be surprised at how many people actually do buy the product even if they entered your giveaway. Add a comment with a link to buy the shirt even though you likely included it in the description. You can end up making more in sales than the cost of the product you’re giving away!
Seasonal and Event-Focused Giveaways
To run a successful giveaway, tap into what people are thinking about at any given time of the year. Take advantage of holidays and special dates. Give your fans what they want based on what’s going on around them.
Keep track of special dates that are closely related to your niche. For example, for a Friends TV Show Page, run a giveaway with a Joey t-shirt on Matt LeBlanc’s birthday.
There’s always something going on, and most of the time you can tie in events, holidays and special dates to your niche.
How to Create a Giveaway
FPTraffic members can easily create giveaways. Log in to your FPTraffic account and access the Giveaways page from the top menu.
- Click Create Your Giveaway.
- Select the Page you’d like to run your giveaway on.
- Enter a keyword in the URL field and a title for your prize in the Prize field.
- Click Choose File to upload an image of your giveaway.
The giveaway is broken down into 3 simple steps:
- Step 1: The user connects their Facebook.
- Step 2: The user has the option to post about your giveaway on their Facebook.
- Step 3: The user goes to your Sponsor.
The Giveaway Sponsor is where you want users to go as the final step of the giveaway. There are two types of sponsors you can set up:
- Lead: The user is required to sign up for the sponsor to be entered in your drawing.
- Click: The user is entered into your drawing when they click on the button in Step 3 to go to the Sponsor link.
When you use a Lead sponsor, the affiliate offer you use must allow incentive traffic. When you use the Click sponsor type, you can enter your own website as your Giveaway Sponsor.
Tip: Amazon is considered a Click Sponsor.
Lead Sponsors: Set up your link and postback
We’re using PeerFly as an example for our Lead Sponsor. This same process works with any affiliate network that allows you to pass SubIDs and has a postback option, which most do.
- Obtain the affiliate link for the offer you want to use. We are using Vindale Research in this example. Our affiliate link from PeerFly for Vindale Research is:
- You must pass the [[entry]] variable into your affiliate link so we can track what entry the user who clicks your affiliate link is for. We pass that entry variable into the first SubID on our PeerFly link as shown:
That is my Sponsor Link. That’s all you have to do to setup your link properly!
- Add the postback URL from FPGiveaway to your affiliate account. If using PeerFly, access the Offer page and click Setup Postback in the left menu.
- Copy and paste your postback URL into the box and replace [[entry]] with the variable for the first SubID, (on PeerFly, it’s %subid1%).
FPGiveaway allows you to modify the page text on each step of your giveaway. A default text appears, but you can modify this to whatever text you like. You can also include some HTML tags within your text on each page, including:
Tip: Save your giveaway first. Connect it to yourself so you can see each step and how the text looks at the top of it.
Connect your AWeber mailing list
Giveaway.Fans is directly integrated with AWeber so you can build your mailing list from users who participate in your giveaway. Choose a mailing list from your AWeber account and users who participate in your giveaway will be added to that list using the name and email from their Facebook account automatically! You can setup with connection on your My Account page.
After saving and launching your giveaway, you can view your stats on the right sidebar of your giveaway page.
The sidebar also shows you the most recent people to participate in your giveaway. Under Recent Entries, click the green button to see a list of everyone who participated in your giveaway. Click the button at the top right to randomly select a winner.
Tip: If you’re hosting a giveaway with an Amazon product, you can offer the winner a gift card instead of actually buying and shipping the shirt to them. This ensures that the only real personal information exchanged is an email address.
